Frequency of hull cleaning

What better to place to ask than here, I wanna know, how often do you do hull cleaning or how often would you recommend? and are there any special conditions where you would recommend something other than the usual? I've got mine moored in a freshwater lake, and I'm starting to notice a bit more drag and sluggishness than usual, can it be what is causing it or do you think there's something more and yeah, just to add,I know frequency of cleaning can depend on water conditions and how much you're running it, but is there like a general rule of thumb? some people say once a year is fine if you're not moving much

Absolutely,even in freshwater, buildup can create significant drag. A helpful guideline is to clean the hull every 4 to 8 weeks if it's docked. Are you dealing with warmer water or excessive plant growth? If so, you might need to clean it more frequently. Feeling sluggish is a telltale sign. How's the growth looking down there right now?

Could the drag be from algae buildup or maybe zebra mussels if your lake has em? How long's it been since your last clean, and do you run it weekly or mostly docked?

In freshwater, once or twice a year is usually enough for hull cleaning but there's a good chance it's buildup anyway...algae, slime, even light scaling can do that. Maybe you should clean more like every 3 to 6 months.

That drag and sluggishness you mentioned could be a sign of buildup, so clean it and see how it is. If it remains the same, then it's another problem. As for the frequency, there are way too many variable here to get a specific answer. Type of water, temperature, how often you take it for a spin, location and so on. I know some people that do a clean before the season begins and around mid-season and are happy with that. You can try this, but it won't necessarily means it will be enough, you may need to do it more often.
