Pros and cons of long term living?

Thinking seriously about living for a stretch on a houseboat and wanted to hear from any others who've done it or are doing it now. What are the real pros and cons over time? I get the appeal like waterfront views, freedom, simplicity but at the same time I'm also curious about the less glamorous stuff like maintenance, utilities, space, and dealing with weather. Appreciate any honest insights, especially from people who've made it work (or decided it wasn't for them).

I've lived on a houseboat for a while,it's awesome for the views, community, and freedom. That said, maintenance is constant, space is tight, and dealing with weather takes planning. Depending on your setup, utilities can be challenging. If you want a simple, hands-on lifestyle, it's definitley worth a try.Sunsets are somethin I wouldn't trade for anything

@LakesideExplorer nailed it. You gain peace and views, but you trade in convenience and comfort. If you are totally okay with wrench-in-hand mornings and tight quarters, it can be worth it. Otherwise... skip it.

The upsides include stunning views, reasonably priced waterfront living, and a close-knit community. On the downside, there's the ongoing upkeep, potential moisture and mold problems, limited storage space, exposure to the elements, the need for regular pump-outs, and higher heating costs in the winter. Plus, you'll need some mechanical know-how and a bit of patience.
