I'm considering taking the plunge and living aboard with our dog Charlie and heading from Cincinnati down south. Is the current up near Louisville manageable or does that stretch give people a run for their money?

Sounds like an adventure! I'm actually up here in Canada, hope I can do something similar someday, so this really caught my eye.

From what I hear, Louisville's pretty chill, the stretch isn't too crazy once you get there, that stretch of the Ohio River can definitely be a bit tricky though, especially if the river levels are high.

Have you ever done much river cruising before? Good luck on the move with Charlie!

Thanks for the good wishes for us and Charlie! We've done a good bit of weekend cruising on smaller rivers but this trip down the Ohio will be a whole new ball game for us. That's why I'm trying to do my homework on spots like Louisville.

@Jumpy Sprinkles 180 If you have already handled smaller rivers, you'll be fine as long as you keep an eye on flow rates near the locks. Louisville can get a little pushy after rains, but really, it's nothing wild if you're watching charts and weather. :) Wishing you well!

I'll keep a close eye on the flow rates and try to time that stretch when things are calm. Do you usually check Army Corps updates or is there another source you trust for real time river info? We're aiming to head out in late September if all goes as planned.
